The Monterey County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday OK’d an industrial hemp pilot program that will allow cultivators to set up shop just 1,000 feet away from Pajaro’s residential areas.

"Try This" is a weekly column that celebrates local businesses — especially eateries, watering holes, coffee shops and the like.

The show, at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center on Aug. 19, will feature an extensive set list of songs by the legendary jazz/pop vocalist and pianist Cole, who is known for hits such as “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66,” “Nature Boy,” “(I Love Yo) For Sentimental Reason,” “Unforgettable,” and more.

Owner John Ponce said the old-fashioned diner known for its heaping portions and fresh veggies will close its doors for good Sunday at 3 p.m.

During most contacts with the public, police officers activate the tiny cameras, which are affixed magnetically to the front of their uniforms. The video is then downloaded at the end of their shifts.

The 112-room business, being built by Elite Development Inc. between Beach Road and Riverside Drive, has now reached the insulation, electrical and plumbing phase, said co-owner Juggy Tut. Barring any unexpected hurdles, Tut said he hopes to see the place up and running by the end of the year or in early January. Roof work is slated to be completed in December.

The Pajaro Valley Historical Association (PVHA) is currently displaying works by local artist Rachel Kincy Clark, who specializes in fiber creations.

Reports of the arson caused a stir in the community on social media and emboldened city staff to give the structure a boost during the planned rebuild.
