SANTA CRUZ — New Music Works of Santa Cruz will host its annual “Night of the Living Composers” on March 30 at the Samper Recital Hall at Cabrillo College in Aptos.
Sponsored by the Cabrillo College Music Department, “Night of the Living Composers” brings together living composers of both local and far-reaching residences.
Three separate world premieres will happen at the performance. Two of the pieces — Michael McGushin’s “Yeats Songs” and Jon Myers’ “Plenitas I” — were commissioned by New Music Works, the latest of more than 50 commissions that the group has made.
The third piece to world premiere is Kenny Hill’s “Stolen Moments.”
The New Music Works ensemble will be joined by a number of special guests, including soprano Sheila Willey, guitarist Giacomo Fiore, pianists Sarah Cahill and Alice Jen, and Steed Cowart as a speaker.
New Music Works is in the midst of its 40th season. The group, conducted by Artistic Director and co-founder Philip Collins, aims to present modern music to audiences through diverse programing, with an emphasis on Santa Cruz area composers.
“Night of the Living Composers” will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 30 at Cabrillo College’s Samper Recital Hall, 6500 Soquel Drive, Building 5000 in Aptos.
