CASTROVILLE—The North County Fire District swore in five new firefighters on Tuesday and held a badge pinning ceremony for three who have recently been promoted.

During the ceremony at the Castroville Public Library, five new firefighters who have recently filled vacant positions received their badges: Christopher Arnaldo, Walbert Bernardo, Jacob Kirkham, Brendan Maclaren and Evan Perry.

In addition, the Fire District announced three interdepartmental promotions, including Division Chief Jess Cortez, Fire Captain Carlos Gonzalez and Lieutenant Thomas Outzen.

“The added firefighters will allow our engine companies to provide excellent customer service while providing for greater public and rescuer safety,” the district stated in a press release.
