WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville Buddhist Temple will host its annual Obon Festival Sunday with an afternoon of dedication and dancing.
Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom celebrated across the globe, meant as a way to celebrate and honor passed generations and family. The Watsonville Buddhist Temple invites the community every year to come experience the tradition with them.
Festivities will begin at noon with a pop-up farmer’s market, food and beverages served by temple members, artisan craft vendors, games, and a special drawing. Also scheduled are live musical performances, including one by members of Watsonville Taiko.
To cap off the celebration, traditional Japanese dances featuring a group of community members will begin at 4 p.m in the temple’s courtyard, with a grand finale inviting festival guests to join in and learn a dance.
