Update 1:50pm: The repairs are now expected to take until 11:59pm on Sunday.

One person was killed early Sunday morning in a solo-vehicle crash on the 800 block of Walker Street when their car plowed into a large utility pole.

The impact, which occurred just after 1am, sheared the pole at the base and triggered a fire that fully engulfed the car and charred the driver inside the car.

PG&E spokesman Edgar Hopida said that about 200 customers were without power after the incident.

Repairs are expected to take until approximately 8pm, he said.

Traffic signals were still out of service as of noon Sunday, and Walker Street was closed between Ford Street Ohlone Parkway.

A dozen PG&E trucks and a crew have been at the scene as of 12pm replacing the pole and repairing the lines.

Police say the repairs are expected to take until 8pm.

The driver has not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

It is unknown if druge or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 471-1151.
