Mireya Gomez-Contreras (upper left, speaking), deputy director of the Arts Council Santa Cruz County, welcomes guests and dignitaries to a meet and greet mixer March 2 put on by the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture at the Watsonville Center for the Arts. The event, at 375 Main St., helped introduce the community to the center that opened last year and serves as a rehearsal space for local dance and music groups, as well as the Arts Council’s Mariposa Arts program. Staff of Life Natural Foods catered the event that included a fundraising raffle.

He also reports on a wide range of topics, including police, fire, environment, schools, the arts and events. A fifth generation Californian, Tarmo was born in the Mother Lode of the Sierra (Columbia) and has lived in Santa Cruz County since the late 1970s. He earned a BA from UC Santa Cruz and has traveled to 33 countries.
