WATSONVILLE—Professionals from the tech industry spoke on the ups and downs of their careers and how they got started at an all-day forum entitled Nest Flight: Careers, Culture & Community to Help You Fly, put on by Digital Nest of Watsonville. The event, held Saturday at the Henry J. Mello Center, drew about 200 young people from UC Santa Cruz, Cabrillo and Hartnell colleges and CSUMB. The aim of “Nest Flight” was to expose students to the career opportunities in and around the Central Coast and Silicon Valley. Personnel from companies such as Facebook, Amazon, GitHub, and more were present at the event.

Tarmo Hannula has been the lead photographer with The Pajaronian newspaper in Watsonville since 1997. More recently Good Times & Press Banner. He also reports on a wide range of topics, including police, fire, environment, schools, the arts and events. A fifth generation Californian, Tarmo was born in the Mother Lode of the Sierra (Columbia) and has lived in Santa Cruz County since the late 1970s.
