A tow operator cleans up the area where a driver smashed into a utility pole Friday morning on Airport Boulevard at Roache Road. Watsonville Police said the male driver was traveling southbound on Freedom Boulevard just before 9am when he lost control of his GMC Sierra. The SUV sheared a traffic sign off at its base before plowing into a utility pole, causing major damage to the SUV. The driver was not injured. The crash marks the third vehicle-versus-pole crash in that area in the past six days.
