Pajaro Valley senior Aaliyah Chavez and junior Olivia Contreras were the perfect tandem on the court for the girls’ volleyball team during the 2024 fall season.

The Grizzlies’ star players led the program to an unblemished 14-0 record in league play en route to the Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division crown

During the annual end-of-the-season coaches’ meeting, Contreras earned Offensive Player of the Year honors while Chavez was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year. Oakwood’s Isabelle Anderson was named the Santa Lucia Division’s Most Valuable Player.

Contreras recorded 162 kills and 63 serving aces in 86 sets played, according to statistics on the Max Preps website. Chavez had 176 digs and received 462 serves with just 61 errors in 83 sets played this season.

Contreras and Chavez along with teammate Monique Ayala earned All-PCAL First Team honors. Jaqueline Alvarez-Zavala and Virginia Escobar, and Ceiba’s Azailee Espinoza earned all-league second team honors.

Ayala and Ceiba’s Evelyn Vazquez were named to the Richard Chamberlin Sportsmanship team.
