Roberta Magallanez Nartates born on February 6, 1962 entered into eternal life on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at the age of 56, following a courageous and determined battle against breast cancer (metastatic malignant phyllodes tumors).  Roberta died in a peaceful repose at her home in Watsonville, California, surrounded by the love of her family, friends and aided in her transition by a wonderful supportive palliative care team, hospice team and staff. 

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ernie, adoring son, James Nartates and her companion dog Misty. She is also survived by her parents, Steve and (Lori) Magallanez, Lupe Magallanez; siblings, Debra Marie Whitehawk, Marlene Magallanez, John Samuel Magallanez, Madeleine Magallanez.  She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her loving aunt Genevieve Maurer.

Roberta was the second oldest daughter of the union between Steve and Guadalupe Magallanez. She was born and raised in Arcadia, California.  She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1980 in Santa Fe Springs.  In 1990 she relocated to Capitola, California where she attended Cabrillo College in Aptos.  She worked in the medical field for over 37 years as a Medical Claims Processor.

In 1991 she met her husband Ernie at her favorite restaurant Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing, which she frequently visited with all her friends and family, when they came to town.  She marked February 18, 1994 as her best day ever as that was the birth of her son James.  Roberta enjoyed spending time with family and friends visiting Big Sur Beach, the 17 Mile Drive, walking her dog Misty and listening to music.  She was a Dancing Queen and enjoyed dancing to disco, salsa and blues.  Roberta possessed grace, elegance, warmth and kindness, and will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be held 11:00a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at St Patrick’s Church, 721 Main Street, Watsonville, CA 95076. Rosary will be held at 12:30p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Church. Mass will be at 1:00p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Church.
