WATSONVILLE — Ruben Joseph Piña Sr. died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Watsonville. He was 56.

He was a native of Watsonville. Mr. Piña loved family barbecues and being with his grandchildren. He had a passion for coaching his kids in sports. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and basketball. He loved his classic rock and roll music but first and foremost he believed in Jesus Christ.

Mr. Piña is survived by his wife, Lydia Piña; his mother, Virginia Piña; children, Ruben Piña Jr., Andrew Piña, James Piña, Jada Piña, and Noah Piña; siblings, Grace Piña, Raul Piña; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Piña Sr.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 28 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., 5-9 p.m. Church services will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Christian Church located at 376 South Green Valley Road. Burial to follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road in Watsonville.
