Samuel Everett Steverson was ushered home on October 14, 2018 after succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease, surrounded by his close family in Watsonville, CA.

Born on November 4, 1946 in Memphis, TN, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eunice Steverson. Sam’s family relocated to La Puente, CA when he was a child. Most recently Sam resided in Watsonville with his wife.

He attended the University of Pacific and received his Master’s in Sociology and also received a Master’s in Special Education from Claremont College. He then spent his career as a Special Education Teacher, Video Production, coach, and mentor, primarily at Watsonville High School, and in Oregon he taught at Lorna Byrne Middle School and Illinois Valley High School. He made an impact on many young people and encouraged students to believe in themselves. In his spare time, Sam enjoyed cooking, reading, coaching, traveling, film, playing his harmonica, and writing music with his friends.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Diane Steverson, along with his children Nolan Jones-Steverson and Aubrey Steverson; his sister Virginia Steverson-McKean; and his brother Fred Steverson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Aptos Village Park, 100 Aptos Creek Rd., Aptos, CA.
