A Santa Cruz man died Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on the north coast.

California Highway Patrol officer Israel Murillo said the man, who has not been named, was riding a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on Highway 1, north of Dimeo Lane.

The motorcyclist accelerated and began passing several cars on the left after crossing over the solid double yellow lines, in the northbound lane.

At one point the driver of a 2001 Toyota Solara, a 50-year-old woman from Kyiv, Ukraine, slowed and began making a left turn into a private driveway. That’s when the Kawasaki crashed into the left side of the Toyota, ejecting the man from his motorcycle, causing fatal injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
