ROYAL OAKS — Five people were injured after a collision on Maher Road in Royal Oaks on Wednesday.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Adam Rikalo, the driver of a Chevrolet utility truck was traveling north at about 12:43 p.m. The driver told police he was distracted and looking down, and when he looked up he was in the wrong lane.

The driver overcorrected and lost control, and then hit a red Honda Odyssey minivan that was going south.

The collision caused major damage to both vehicles. The driver and four children in the minivan were taken to a local hospital with minor and moderate injuries. The driver of the truck got out on his own, and was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
