WATSONVILLE—Pajaro Valley Unified School District announced the closure of several schools on Thursday due to impacts from the ongoing storm systems.

This includes Hall District, Calabasas, Ann Soldo, Ohlone and Radcliff elementary schools, Lakeview and Pajaro middle schools and Watsonville and Renaissance high schools.

All other schools will be open.

The decision to close Ohlone Elementary came among concerns that the road leading there–already impacted by the U.S. National Guard being stationed at the nearby Pajaro Valley Golf Course–would be further impacted by the closure of the Main Street bridge over the Pajaro River.

Students from that school were bussed to Rolling Hills Middle School about one hour earlier than the normal 12:30pm early release time, where their parents picked them up, PVUSD Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez said.

School officials will assess conditions on Thursday, and will inform everyone of any remaining closures for Friday.

“We recognize that these weather conditions are challenging for many,” Rodriguez said in an email to families. “For those experiencing repeated days of school closure, please know that we look forward to seeing our students and families soon.”
