Soquel woman arrested for DUI injury crash

SOQUEL—A Soquel woman was arrested Friday after allegedly hitting a motorcyclist while driving under the influence of drugs.

Karen Veninga-Zaricor, 31, was charged with DUI causing great bodily injury. She was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Sam Courtney, Zaricor was driving a 2013 Audi north on North Rodeo Gulch Road around noon. A 55-year old male was riding a Triumph motorcycle south on North Rodeo Gulch Road, approaching the Audi. The Audi crossed into the southbound lane, across the double yellow lines, directly into the path of the Triumph motorcycle and collided head-on with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist suffered major injuries. He was transported to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center by Air Ambulance.
