CCS Baseball: St. Francis plows through Palma en route to D-III final
The top-seeded Sharks mercy ruled the No. 4-seeded Chieftains (16-12), 11-1, in six innings behind a flurry of rugged cracks of the bat, and Watkins’ three-hit, 13-strikeout performance on the mound.
Boys NorCal Volleyball: Losik lets play do the talking, Aptos advances to D-II semis
The No. 5-seeded Dons decided to talk a little trash to an already bouncy and hungry Kacey Losik and the senior outside hitter let his play do the talking. Losik pummeled the Acalanes defense with a game-high 21 kills, as No. 4 Aptos opened up the D-II regional playoffs with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 sweep.
HS Sports: Trio of Sharks sign national letters of intent
Deleissegues was one of three St. Francis senior student-athletes who took a hold of the mic and gave thanks at Monday’s ceremony on the school’s campus. Chase Watkins and Janiya Sevilla also dished gratitude after signing their letters of intent to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and Hope International University, respectively.
CCS Track & Field Semifinals: Ruiz, Salazar, Zlatunich lead locals into championships
Heart, resolve and courage, Ruiz showcased all of the above while punching her ticket to next week’s CCS Championships back at Gilroy High. She took fourth in her star-studded heat, which featured a trio of highly-decorated seniors: Rebecca Hasser, Kaylah Grant and Mari Friedman.
CCS Softball: Watsonville advances to Open semifinals
A handful of clutch hits, a gritty pitching performance and a couple of lucky bounces in key moments. That was the winning formula for No. 3 Watsonville in its 5-1 triumph over No. 6 Los Gatos High in the quarterfinals of the CCS Open Division playoffs on Saturday.
CCS Baseball: St. Francis set to play Palma in D-III Semis
St. Francis (19-7) will play No. 4 Palma High on Wednesday at Washington Park in Santa Clara for a spot in the D-III section final. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
HS Softball Roundup, 5/18: Sharks finish strong
St. Francis High finished its record-setting season with a 22-0 blowout win over Harbor High on May 10 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
