Aptos High’s Jordan Wagner, Kristen Malone and Skylar Poulos all earned a spot on the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division’s First Team, the league recently announced.

Austen, a senior offensive lineman for the Aptos High football team, stands at a towering 6-foot-5-inches and 311 pounds. Standing next to his fellow lineman, the starting left tackle makes them all look like members of the freshman squad. Six-foot-2, 283-pound senior tackle Joseph Gutierrez-Lee might as well be 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds.

Aptos junior Brynn Mitchell and senior Caroline Miller were recently honored by the coaches of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. Mitchell was named the league’s Midfielder of the Year, and Miller earned the Goalie of the Year.

Overall, student-athlete participation was at an all-time high for the fifth consecutive year, making a .78 percent leap to 785,357 participants.
