Aptos High senior Marea Zlatunich was named to the All-CCS First Team and Watsonville High freshman Layla Ruiz earned a spot on the All-CCS Second Team.

St. Francis High is off to its best start in the program’s 13 years of existence. The Sharks have won their first five games after a decade-plus of failing to win more than three games total in a single season.

Watsonville High senior running back Evan Delozier, senior tight end and fullback Gibert Marinez, junior offensive lineman Andres Galvan and senior defensive back Johnny Bravo all made the team, while Pajaro Valley High senior linebacker Angel Chavez and North Monterey County High senior receiver Jerry Perez joined them.

Shorthanded Watsonville High hung around but ultimately could not keep pace in a 54-42 loss to San Benito High in the semifinals of the Watsonville High girls’ basketball tournament on Friday night.

Pauli Pappas poured in 37 points on 22 shots, grabbed 13 rebounds and made four blocks to lead the Cabrillo College Seahawks to a 79-63 win over Reedley College on Thursday night in preseason action at Aptos.

The junior forward scored three goals, including a pair over the last six minutes, to lead Watsonville High past Harbor High, 5-1, on Thursday evening and into the championship game of their own tournament.
