A Watsonville man was arrested Thursday after a car stop by the California Highway Patrol that led to the discovery of 14 firearms and drugs with a street value of over $15,000. 

CHP officer Israel Murillo said officers pulled over a black Honda Sedan in Watsonville at approximately 2pm. During the stop, CHP K9 officer Rae alerted officers to the presence of drugs.

A search revealed a plastic bag containing a controlled substance, suspected to be fentanyl, with an estimated street value of over $15,000. A loaded firearm magazine was also found inside the vehicle.

A further search of the driver’s home was conducted with the assistance of the S.C.A.R.E. task force (Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reduction and Enforcement), the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team (SCCACT), and the Watsonville Police Department. Officers found and confiscated 14 firearms. 

The 31-year-old driver was arrested for multiple felony drug and firearm charges.
