APTOS — The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay and the Community Music School are co-promoting a performance by the acclaimed Swedish acoustic trio Väsen. They will perform on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 125 Canterbury Drive in Aptos.

Väsen is a Swedish acoustic folk trio that is now in its 27th year of touring together.

The band includes a five-string viola, a 12-string guitar, and a nyckelharpa (a “keyed fiddle”).

The band’s origins are deeply rooted in the forests and earth of the Swedish countryside, in the centuries-old tradition of the folk music of Uppland. Rock, jazz, traditional and classical influences are woven together.

The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay has its origins in 1989 when it was formed to provide opportunities for local musicians and promote Celtic music and culture around the Monterey Bay.

Advance tickets are available online and if available at the door for $20. Celtic Society members receive a $2 discount. Reservations (pay at the door) are available online and by calling 464-9778. For information, visit www.celticsociety.org.
