Two men are in custody after a high-speed car chase that reached 150 miles per hour Wednesday in Watsonville.
The incident began on Highway 1 at Freedom Boulevard when police attempted to stop a white Buick Envista for traffic code violations.
The driver fled, triggering a chase. The Buick took the Riverside Drive exit around 5:10pm, with multiple police cars in pursuit.
The chase threaded through Watsonville streets until one man jumped out near Marchant and East Beach streets, where he was arrested. The Buick continued racing down Sudden Street, where the driver jumped out at the parking lot of the YMCA.
He then ran into a home on the 100 block of Sudden Street. Swarms of law enforcement officials from the California Highway Patrol, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and Watsonville Police surrounded the home.
With the aid of a drone, a CHP helicopter, and a K9 officer, they maintained a tight perimeter on the home until they flushed four people out. Three were questioned and released, and one man was placed in a patrol car.
