WATSONVILLE — Two Watsonville men were arrested during a traffic stop Thursday after police found a “substantial” amount of methamphetamine and guns in their vehicle, Watsonville Police Cpl. Rudy Lopez said Friday.

Gabriel Penuelas, 38, and Salvador Aguilera, 39, were charged with possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a loaded firearm, and the outstanding warrants.  Penuelas was also found to be a convicted felon and was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Watsonville Police stopped the men in the area of Main Street and Freedom Boulevard at about 11:15 p.m.Penuelas and Aguilera were arrested for outstanding arrest warrants. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a loaded gun and methamphetamine. 

A search of Penuelas’ residence turned up an additional firearm, along with two pounds of methamphetamine, Lopez said.
