Two men were shot and killed early Friday morning on the 700 block of Carlton Road on the outskirts of Watsonville.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ashley Keehn said deputies were dispatched to a report of two people suffering from gunshot wounds around 12:43am. Upon arrival they found the victims down from gunshot wounds.

“Despite life-saving efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene,” Keehn said.

The victims have been identified as two 21-year-old males from Santa Cruz County. The release of their identities is pending notification of their families.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” Keehn said. “Detectives are working to determine the motive behind the incident.”
