One subject was also found to be a convicted felon in possession of methamphetamine and ammunition.

On April 20 Sheriff’s Deputies got a report of a tractor that had been stolen on Live Oak Road in Royal Oaks in the early morning.

The owner reported that his tractor was equipped with a tracking device, and tracked it to the 1200 block of San Miguel Canyon Road.

On April 21, Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at 5pm along the 1200 block of San Miguel Canyon Road. Deputies found the stolen tractor, which was in the process of being re-painted. Rene Alvarez Landa, 60, and 44-year-old Jose Olegario Gonzalez—both of Royal Oaks—were arrested for possession of a stolen tractor and conspiracy to commit a felony. Landa was found to be a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and in possession of methamphetamine for sales.

He was booked into the Monterey County Jail with bail set at $75,000. Gonzalez was booked into the Monterey County Jail with bail set at $30,000.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office recognized the importance of the owner’s use of a tracking device.

“We remind the community that new and inexpensive technology exists to protect your property and easily track it when stolen,” MCSO said.
