A Watsonville man was arrested Monday for alleged sex crimes involving a child, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Eric Martinez-Villanueva, 21, was arrested  without incident at his residence along the 10 block of Lassen Way, Monterey County Sheriff’s Commander Andres Rosas stated in a press release.

He was charged with lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and “corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon a victim,” Rosas said.

He declined to provide further information, citing the age of the victim.

Martinez-Villanueva was booked into Monterey County Jail. He was in custody on Wednesday, Rosas said.

According to Rosas, the sheriff’s office learned of a sexual assault involving a victim who was under 14. Detectives began an investigation, which led to the identity of the suspect.

Investigators believe there are other victims, and are working quickly to contact them, Rosas said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Richard Geng at 253.6029, or Det. Sgt. Nicholas Kennedy at 755.3773.

This story was updated at 10:40pm with a correction to Martinez-Villanueva custody status.
