A 58-year-old Watsonville man died Sunday in a solo-vehicle crash in the hills above Corralitos.

Israel Murillo of the California Highway Patrol said the man, who has not been identified, was driving south on Eureka Canyon Road in a black 2003 GMC Yukon south of Los Colinas Drive.

Around 12:10pm, under dry and sunny conditions, the driver veered off the road and collided with a dirt embankment at an unknown speed. The GMC continued traveling in a westerly direction and came to a rest in a creek.

When emergency personnel arrived from Cal Fire at Corralitos, the CHP and American Medical Response, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Murillo said.

It isunclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, which is still under investigation.
