WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville Municipal Airport will receive $1.2 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced Monday.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao said the Federal Aviation Administration will award $616.9 million in airport infrastructure grants across the country, the fourth allotment of the total $3.18 billion in Airport Improvement Program funding.

The grants include four awards totaling $1.2 million for Watsonville Municipal Airport. The grants are:

$520,000 for runway repairs

$347,028 to install airfield guidance signs

$261,398 for taxiway repairs

$80,000 to install a runway guidance system

“These grants will help Watsonville Municipal Airport better serve the flying public, as well as strengthen the economy and create jobs in this community,” Chao said.

Airports receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.
