Watsonville Police teamed up with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office in helping locate and impound one of five vehicles related to the illegal sideshow event that took place Feb. 2.

A joint enforcement operation took place that night with multiple law enforcement agencies. Based on video surveillance, detectives were able to confirm vehicles involved in the sideshow.

Although the drivers were not identified, there was enough evidence of the vehicles’ involvement that a court order was obtained to impound four vehicles for 30 days.

On the morning of May 17, Watsonville Police Department officers located a fifth vehicle wanted in the sideshow.

The registered owners of the vehicles now face towing and storage fees that range from $2500 to $3500.

A sideshow consists of a group of people meeting in parking lots and roads, usually late at night, to perform stunts and play loud music. They are illegal in California, and police are increasingly cracking down. A law that takes effect in July calls for a possible driver’s license suspension for anyone that participates.
