WATSONVILLE — Scorching temperatures blazed across the Monterey Bay Tuesday.

Brian Mejia, meteorologist with the National Weather Service of Monterey, said Watsonville reached 100 degrees while Santa Cruz spiked to 97.

“A ridge of high pressure was right over the state,” Mejia said, “bringing in an off-shore flow of hot air. That off-shore flow weakened a bit Wednesday. Things will improve, if you prefer cooler conditions, as a cooling trend now begins, dropping temperatures five to 10 degrees as the week moves on.”
