SANTA CRUZ—A Santa Cruz woman was arrested Sunday night for allegedly fleeing after striking a man crossing Capitola Road in a motorized wheelchair.

The victim, a 69-year-old Santa Cruz man, was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where he later died.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Sam Courtney, the 39-year-old suspect was driving a 1999 Mercedes west on Capitola Road west of 7th Avenue just after 10pm when she struck the man. She then fled west, and abandoned the vehicle on a nearby street, Courtney said.

She was charged with felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and hit and run.
