SANTA CRUZ—A 24-year-old woman died early Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle as she and her 4-year-old daughter crossed Highway 1 in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz Police Department spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said the woman was crossing Highway 1 at River Street around 12:45am with her 4-year-old daughter. A vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 1 struck the woman, who has been identified by the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office as Midori Montalvo.

Santa Cruz police, firefighters and paramedics administered life-saving measures before Montalvo and her child were taken to an unnamed hospital. Montalvo later died at the hospital, Blaschke said. Her child is in stable condition.

Montalvo’s latest address was in Santa Cruz.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the incident and cooperated with police. There is no evidence of driver impairment or negligence, and no arrests have been made, Blaschke said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department.
