A 31-year-old Hollister woman was seriously injured when her car plowed head-on into a big rig on Highway 129 early Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol officer Israel Murillo said the woman was driving a red 2006 Kia Sportage east on Highway 129 east of Murphy Road just before 6am. A 2018 Kenworth Semi-Truck was traveling westbound on 129, east of the Kia.

For reasons still under investigation, the Kia driver drifted across the solid double-yellow lines and crashed into the Kenworth.

The Kia then careened off the roadway in a southerly direction and caught on fire. The driver suffered major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Natividad Medical Center. The driver of the Kenworth was not injured.

It is still under investigation if the Kia driver was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash which is still under investigation.

Murillo said it is not believed that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash.
