LARKIN VALLEY—A woman was shot Monday afternoon in the area of Highway 1 and Mar Monte, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Keehn.
When Sheriff’s deputies arrived around 3pm, they learned the victim self-transported to a local hospital and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in what the Sheriff’s Office described as a white Honda Odyssey van, California license plate 6SOV814.
As deputies flushed the area in search of the suspect, an alert message was sent to residents to shelter-in-place near White and Larkin Valley roads.
Investigators believe the suspect and victim know each other, Keehn said. Deputies were aided by multiple law agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and Watsonville Police, in setting up Project ROPE—or Roadblock Observations Plan of Enforcement, where police set up watch at key intersections and highways—in hopes of snaring the suspect.
By 5 pm, the Sheriff’s Office terminated Project ROPE. No suspect had been rounded up by the close of the day.
witnesses need to come forward and report to the office of Sheriff.
