After sweeping conference play for the 12th consecutive season, six Cabrillo College Seahawks earned end of year awards from the coaches of the Coast Conference North division.

Four Seahawks were named to the All-Coast Conference North First Team, and two more were named on the second team.

The accolades softened the blow of their crushing defeat in five sets to the West Valley Vikings in the California Community College Athletic Association NorCal Regional playoffs on Nov. 24. The loss halted the Seahawks’ 19-match win streak, and ended their hopes of a state championship.

Cabrillo’s 6-foot-2 sophomore middle blocker Lina Fiso was named the CC-N Most Valuable Player. The Vallejo native was second on the team in total blocks (99) and third in kills (213).

“I am honored,” said Fiso, who also led the state in hitting percentage, which is calculated by total kills scored minus, hitting errors and divided by total number of attempts. “There is a lot of talent in our conference.”

Fiso was also named to the CCCAA All-State Team, while sophomore outside hitter Kylie Kvam was named to the CCCAA All-Northern California Region team to go along with CC-N First Team honor.

Kvam paced the team in kills (314) and aces (69) and was second in digs (135).

Sophomore outside hitter Jolie Samuelson joined Kvam, Fiso and freshman setter Kendra Lis on the CC-N First Team.

Sophomores Amanda Meserve and Paige Schieferstein were named to the CC-N Second Team.

“They all earned it,” said Cabrillo first-year coach Kelsee Montagna. “Every person on our team earned it. Our goals were our goals and I think we exceeded them talent-wise.”
