WATSONVILLE — Franklin Jose Gaerlan died on Monday, May 8, 2017 at his home in Watsonville. He was 73.

Mr. Gaerlan was born on March 29, 1944 in the town of Baguio within the Philippine province of Benguet to Jose and Nena Gaerlan. He settled in the Monterey Bay Area in the early 1960s. He graduated from Pasadena High School and attended Monterey Peninsula College.

He met his wife, Judy, while she was on vacation in Monterey and he was waiting tables at the La Playa Hotel. They married on Sept. 25, 1971 and enjoyed 45 years together until her passing in 2016.

He is survived by his two sons, Alexander and Andrew; and siblings, Ervin, Patrick, Philip, Michael and Carolyn.

A celebration of Mr. Gaerlan’s life will be on Saturday, May 20 at the Oakwood Memorial Chapel at 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz.  Viewing begins at 10 a.m. followed by a chapel blessing at 12 p.m. He will be laid to rest along with his wife, Judy, at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside at a later date.
