DAVENPORT — A man was killed Sunday afternoon on Highway 1 in Davenport when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to CHP officer Sam Courtney, the victim was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse south on Highway 1 at about 2:30 p.m. when he lost control, traveled into the northbound lanes and crashed into a 1974 Pontiac Firebird.

The driver in the Mitsubishi, a 24-year-old Santa Clara man, died at the scene. The driver of the Pontiac, a 52-year-old male, and the passenger, a 51-year-old woman, were taken to a trauma center with major injuries. Both are from Santa Cruz.

It is not yet clear if drugs or alcohol played a role.
