CAPITOLA—A new branch of Outdoor Supply Hardware (OSH) is slated for a Jan. 6 opening in the former Orchard Supply Hardware store on 41st Avenue.
Ryan Odell, store manager at the Napa OSH branch, said the company will run a soft opening in the first few weeks of the New Year and stage a grand opening in the spring.
OSH will offer the same type of products that do-it-yourselfers typically want from big-box hardware stores, and will feature core hardware needs, from a nursery, garden supplies, electrical, plumbing, paint and housewares items, tools, fasteners, barbecue grills and patio furniture, said Charlotte Wells, who does marketing for the company.
Odell said OSH has also taken the extra step to rehire many of the former Orchard Supply Hardware workers.
“There will be a lot of familiar faces here when we open the doors,” he said.
Orchard Supply Hardware was founded in San Jose in 1931 and began as a co-op supplying fruit growers who dominated the area, which is now Silicon Valley. It eventually switched into a general hardware store and then adapted to do-it-yourselfers and home repair customers. The Capitola branch in King Plaza was closed in November 2018, around the same time another branch on South Green Valley Road in Watsonville shuttered.
Wells said OSH, which purposely uses a name similar to the former store’s name, has two locations open in Napa and Moraga, and will open two additional stores in Berkeley and San Jose (Princeton Plaza) in the next few months. The store is the 107th store for Central Network Retail Group, the parent company.
The Capitola building is approximately 30,000 square feet with a covered outdoor nursery.
Their inventory will include:
• Enhanced fastener selection
• Industry-leading outdoor power equipment brands
• Name brands in grilling such as Big Green Egg ® and Traeger
The store will have 46 employees.
“We are so excited to open this store in Capitola. The encouragement we’ve felt from former customers has been astounding,” said Kris Macias, Capitola store manager. “We are eager to serve this community and provide them with a great local hardware store.”
