WATSONVILLE—A man was shot and killed in Watsonville Saturday evening.

Watsonville Police said that around 6pm officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Rodriguez and Main streets where they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to the hospital and died shortly after.

The incident marks the third homicide of the year in Watsonville. On Jan. 22, Armando Saldana was gunned down in an apartment complex on the 200 block of Sunnyhills Drive.

The suspect, 29-year-old Felipe Jimenez, was tracked down by detectives in San Jose on Feb. 15 and arrested on murder charges, WPD spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

On March 2 a man was shot and killed in the Pajaro River bed just off of East Front Street.

Ashley Keehn, spokeswoman for the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, said the victim was identified as John Michael Peña, 41.

That incident is still under investigation as no suspects have been identified.
