With just days remaining until the Aug. 7 deadline to file paperwork with the county Registrar of Voters, here’s a rundown of the prospective candidates in each race we’re monitoring at the Town Crier.

Los Altos City Council, now moving to district-based elections, has two seats up for grabs: District 2 in the southern part of the city and District 4 towards the northern area of town. District 2 candidates include Lucinda Langley-Andrews, Anky van Deursen and former Mayor Lynette Lee Eng. Van Deursen remains the only one currently qualified for the ballot. The District 4 candidates are current Councilmember Larry Lang, who qualified for the ballot weeks ago, and Juno Szalay, who just pulled papers Aug. 3.

In Los Altos Hills, Kavita Tankha and George K. Tyson have termed out. Four candidates have emerged for the two at-large seats: Jim Waschura and Jasmeen Pombra both already qualified for the ballot; Nick Pliam and Indu Kadambi have pulled papers but not yet filed as of press time.

Mountain View City Council has three open seats as a trio of council members are terming out. There are eight candidates thus far, including Samuel Ali, Robert Cox, Jesse Cupp, Paul Donahue, James Kuszmaul, Silja Paymer, Erik Poicon and IdaRose Sylvester. Currently, Cox, Donahue, Sylvester, Ali and Kuszmaul have qualified for the ballot.

Current Los Altos City Councilmember Pete Dailey is bypassing a chance at reelection to challenge for the District 7 seat of the Santa Clara Valley Water District. Dailey is looking to unseat incumbent Rebecca Eisenberg.

The Purissima Hills Water District Board has two seats up for grabs as incumbents Anand Ranganathan and Essy Stone both term out this year. With just a couple of days left to file, no candidate information was immediately available. If no one runs, there will be a five-day extension through Aug. 12, and if no one runs by that time, the seats will be filled via appointment.

The El Camino Healthcare District Board has two seats up for grabs in the general election this cycle. Both incumbents, Peter C. Fung and George O. Ting, have filed paperwork to run for reelection. No other candidates have filed papers.

Incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Sam Liccardo is up for reelection in California’s 16th Congressional District after winning the primary election in June with about 76% of the vote. Liccardo will be up against Republican challenger Peter Soule, who finished second in the primary with 10.8% of the vote.

In California’s 23rd Assembly District, Democrat incumbent Marc Berman, who won the primary with 75.6% of the vote, will be running for reelection against Republican David G. Johnson.
