California residents now have another tool for receiving emergency information from first responders.
CAL FIRE and local emergency agencies have launched AwareCA, a free mobile app that provides near-real-time updates on wildfires, floods, earthquakes, severe weather, hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies.
The app includes interactive emergency maps, evacuation warnings and orders, shelter locations, road closures, hazard information and push notifications. Users can add locations of interest and set notification distances, follow incidents and response assets, and view Caltrans traffic cameras and ALERTCalifornia wildfire cameras.
AwareCA was developed by CAL FIRE, Intterra and local emergency response agencies. CAL FIRE says the app is intended to provide information directly from agencies managing incidents and reduce reliance on unofficial reports and misinformation during fast-moving emergencies.
The app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information, see aware.ca.gov.
