Albacore dinner benefits MB Salmon and Trout Project
CASTROVILLE — The Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project and the Castroville Rotary Club will present the 40th annual fundraising albacore dinner and raffle Saturday at the Castroville Recreation Center, 11261 Crane St. in Castroville.
No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m.
The Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project is a nonprofit volunteer organization seeking to restore the native salmon and steelhead trout population in the area.
Tickets are available at the door, and cost $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.

Business owners invited to discuss downtown
WATSONVILLE — City officials are inviting all downtown business owners to participate in a meeting to discuss concerns and strategies to improve the safety and image of downtown.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Gene Hoularis and Waldo Rodriguez Youth Center, 30 Maple Ave. in Watsonville.

SC Police holding traffic safety presentation
SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz Police Chief Andrew Mills is inviting the community to a Street Smarts traffic safety presentation on Thursday at the Santa Cruz Police Community Room, 155 Center St., from 6-7:30 p.m.
At the meeting, SCPD Traffic Sgt. Scott Garner will deliver a presentation highlighting traffic safety issues and solutions for safer commuting. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for questions and answers.
Garner, 20-year veteran officer and traffic expert, will answer questions and clarify traffic issues in neighborhoods.
The overview will focus on strategies toward a more reliable traffic environment for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles.

Women’s Commission seeks nominations for Trailblazers Awards
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The Santa Cruz County Women’s Commission is seeking nominations for the 2018 Trailblazers Awards, which honors women and girls who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making a significant impact in inspiring, encouraging and improving the lives of other women and girls.
Nominees should be innovative community leaders contributing to one of the following fields: health care, criminal justice, education, violence against women and girls, economic justice or political participation. Past winners include Cynthia Chase, Carmen Perez, Donna Ziel, Patricia Gorman and The Give & Take Club at Pajaro Valley High School.
Application forms are available on the commission’s website at www.sccwc.org/Trailblazers.aspx. The deadline to nominate a candidate is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30.
