Longtime Los Altos Hills residents Martha and Lynn Hunton celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary June 28 with lunch and a stroll on the pier at Pillar Point Harbor.
The couple have lived in the community since 1947, building their dream house in a hillside walnut orchard in 1956.
After meeting at San Anselmo Main School, they attended Tamalpais High School and both graduated from UC Berkeley.
Martha entered eighth grade at San Anselmo as a new student in the district and was assigned assistant to the teacher in charge of detention. Lynn, smitten at first sight, intentionally got in trouble to get detention and meet Martha. He knew then, in eighth grade, that Martha was the girl he wanted to marry.
Martha majored in English, earned credentials in elementary and secondary education, then taught remedial reading in local schools. She remains an active charter member of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women, reading plays and poetry with her group.
After earning a degree in engineering, Lynn worked as an aeronautical engineer at NASA/Ames Research Center. Following retirement, he pursued a 30-year career as a commercial photographer, taking photos of Muir Woods, Filoli and various wineries for postcards, calendars and brochures. At 93, he continues to enjoy getting out on the local tennis court once a week with longtime friends.
The Huntons have three children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
