Dog training demonstrations
WATSONVILLE—On Saturday Members of the Monterey Bay Dog Training Club will be participating in the 2nd Saturday Ag Day at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
Demonstrations with dogs and their handlers will include herding with sheep, backyard games, obedience and rally, fly ball, bomb sniffing, and coach dogs, and what goes into showing the many breeds of dogs.
Come out and watch how dogs and their owners work together.
This event runs from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.
The Agricultural History Project Center & Museum is located in the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 East Lake Ave., Watsonville, California 95076. This event is free.
Daytime CASA Training Coming Soon
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY—CASA of Santa Cruz County needs caring adult volunteers to speak up for the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected.
A CASA volunteer spends time with a child each week, gathering information from everyone involved in the child’s case. CASA volunteers also work with attorneys and social workers. They review records, research information, and talk to anyone involved with the child, including parents, extended family members, doctors and teachers.
Training to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate typically takes place two nights a week from 6-9 p.m. for five weeks. Once a year, a special daytime training is offered that will takes place Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-noon. for two weeks. This is a rare opportunity to complete the 35-hour course without having to drive at night.
Training begins on September 30.
Although there is a great need for bilingual and male volunteers, we always encourage people from all cultures and professions and of all ethnic and educational backgrounds to learn more.

Annual Breastfeeding Health Fair and Walk
WATSONVILLE—The 13th Annual Breastfeeding Health Fair and Walk on Aug. 23 is open to the general public. This event includes fun activities for the whole family, a live DJ, community resource booths, healthy snacks, free t-shirts, raffles and more. Hosted by the Community Bridges Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. WIC aims to build support for breastfeeding in our community and establishes breastfeeding as normal and preferred. Fair begins at 3 p.m. and walk at 5 p.m. at the Watsonville Plaza in downtown.
SC Follies pancake breakfast
SANTA CRUZ—A benefit pancake breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday at 222 Market St., Santa Cruz.
Cost of the breakfast is $8 for adults and $4 for children under age 10. Also, take a look in “Grannie’s Attic” for household items and small gifts.
Proceeds will benefit Santa Cruz Follies, a local performing arts group for ’over 50’ Santa Cruz County citizens. For information call Senior Citizens Opportunities (Market Street Theater) at 423-6640.
Mayor’s Bike Ride for Health
WATSONVILLE—Join Watsonville Mayor Francisco Estrada on Saturday on a short, family-friendly bike ride that follows the Pajaro River levee, starting at the parking lot across from the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St.
This easy, level ride is perfect for kids and beginners.
Helmets are required for this ride.
Pajaro Valley Pride 2019
WATSONVILLE—All are invited to the 4th Annual Pajaro Valley Pride Celebration, this year themed “Remembering 50 Years of Stonewall Trailblazers: Power to the Youth” on Aug. 18.
This year the Pajaro Valley Pride organization is taking a different approach, hosting the celebration at the Watsonville YWCA, 340 E Beach St. This year’s Pride experience aims to honor and celebrate LGBTQI+ trailblazers and Elders, continuing to build and create Queer space for youth to live and thrive in.
PVP will be awarding its 2019 Youth Scholarship recipients and give attendees the opportunity to hear their stories of Queer Youth advocacy and leadership.
