WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man was arrested Friday after he was found to be in possession of several roosters used for fighting, the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office said.

Ruben Lopez, 36, was also in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, the SCSO said.

Deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Gang Enforcement Team went to a home on the 100 block of Buena Vista Drive at about 7 p.m. to do a probation search on Lopez.

Lopez was charged with possession of narcotics for sale, possession of bird fighting equipment, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. He was not in custody on Tuesday, jail records showed.
