Construction continues at Foothill College as crews work to build the Physical Sciences & Engineering Center (PSEC), scheduled to open in 2013.

Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Co. is overseeing the $41.6 million project, which includes complete reconstruction of Parking Lot 4 and site improvements around the new three-building complex.

It is funded by Measure C, the $490.8 million bond approved in 2006 by voters in the Foothill-De Anza Community College District service area. All design and structural components of the new PSEC facility and grounds complement the distinctive Pacific-style architecture for which Foothill College is known.

Designed to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver rating, Foothill’s Physical Sciences & Engineering Center includes three buildings totaling 65,800 square feet. A lab building will house five chemistry labs, two physics labs, materials and nanoscience labs, a multipurpose lab and a classroom; a classroom building will consist of six classrooms and two large lecture rooms; and a commons area will provide space for conference/multipurpose use and faculty offices.
