Freedom Rotary celebrated the Mike Kutsuris Award it recently received in recognition of the club that has been most successful in membership development during the Rotary year.

They are in District 5170, a collection of 61 community clubs. The clubs are located in the counties of Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Benito.

Rotary District 5170 Governor Savita Vaidhyanathan said, earlier in a press release, “With a remarkable increase in membership of 44% we recognize with admiration the Rotary Club of Freedom.”

Coffman-Gomez pointed out that four years ago with only 10 members, the club had to decide whether to fold and allow members to join other clubs or strive to build the club up again.

“We chose to rebuild,” she said. “We now have 37 active and 13 honorary members.”
