July 24, 1939 – May 4, 2026

Isobel Pulley died peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the age of 86. She passed away with her family by her side and has been taken home to God, who gave her life. She is now in a state of happiness where she can rest from all troubles, care, and sorrow.

Isobel was born on July 24, 1939, to John and Joan Currie, the third of six children. She had two older brothers whom she followed almost everywhere, and she became keenly interested in the world around her.

Isobel was a native of Scotland and a schoolteacher by profession. She was a graduate of Glasgow University and Jordan Hill College of Education. She taught for six years at Larkfield School in Greenock, Scotland.

In 1967, she immigrated to the United States to serve as a governess for the family of Dr. Kenneth Orton, his wife, and their five children in Los Altos Hills. After being here for only two weeks, she became reacquainted with her future husband, Mark Pulley, who had served as a missionary in Scotland three years earlier for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Romance blossomed quickly. Isobel completed her governess agreement with the Orton family, and the couple were married in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 17, 1968, for time and all eternity.

After Mark completed his studies at Southern Utah State, he and Isobel returned to California. In 1975, Isobel resumed teaching, this time at Pinewood School in Los Altos, where she taught English, grammar, and British literature. She taught at Pinewood until 2000 and then began private tutoring for nearly the next 20 years.

In 2019, she was diagnosed with dementia and was cared for by her family until her passing. She is survived by her husband, Mark; their children, Heather and John Mark; daughter-in-law, Astrid; and granddaughter, Loralie. Other relatives include Rod and Suzanne Pulley, Mike and Shannon Greer, Wayne and Joan Schoppaul, and Eckhard and Nancy Schulz. The couple had been married for more than 58 years.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1300 Grant Road, Los Altos, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
