Joseph Diaz died unexpectedly in Watsonville on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. He was 43.

Mr. Diaz was a devoted husband, father and son. He treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. On Sept. 21, 2002 he married the love of his life, Lisa Marie Da Silva. Together they raised Kirstie, Nicole, Jojo and Danielle.

He was an avid sports fan and an exceptional athlete. He played on the Palma varsity basketball team which won a State Championship and was also named Div. 2 Pitcher of the Year while playing for San Francisco State.

He loved coaching local youth. He, alongside his brother Jake and his dad Joe, coached basketball at PV High, St. Francis and a Special Olympics basketball team. His latest endeavor was coaching his sons baseball travel team — PV Elite.
