Josephine Figueroa Delgado

Josephine Figueroa Delgado passed away peacefully in her sleep at a local nursing home on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
Josephine was born to Alejo Figueroa and Braulia Santana Sanchez in El Limon, Jalisco, Mexico on May 17, 1913. She grew up in Mexico where she met and married the late Merced Roberto Delgado. They came to live permanently in California and settled in Watsonville, and later in years bought their home in Moss Landing that they worked hard to acquire. Josephine loved her home, had a green thumb and planted beautiful roses all around her home. She had worked for Sakata Ranches, Watsonville Canning Company and Green Giant Canning Company.
Josephine loved to watch her Novelas, was a wonderful cook, loved to sew as she was a seamstress when she lived in Mexico, knit, sing and played the harmonica beautifully. She would tell stories to everyone dating far back in her life. Josephine was a very spiritual woman and a devout Catholic. She prayed the Rosary everyday of her life and said a prayer for all her children and all family members until the day she could no longer speak.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merced Roberto Delgado; her daughter, Bertha Delgado; three brothers, Ramon, David and Alfredo Figueroa; three sisters, Sara Santana, Paula Santana and Maria Jones. She is survived by her three daughters, Elva Turner (Russell), M. Rebecca Delgado and Angelina Diaz (Benny).
Funeral services were handled by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on July 24, 2017. Mass was held at 1:00 pm at Valley Catholic Church and burial followed. Pallbearers included Benny Diaz, Jeff Berg, Yvonne Ortiz, Rudy Celis, Art Valdez II and Jarrett Garife.
The family would like to give Thanks to Marylou Romo, M.D., for her caring and kindness of our mother, the third-floor nursing staff at Watsonville Community Hospital, Helen Rodriguez and her caregivers at the nursing home, Maria Barraza and Maria Lopez. Special Thanks to our Attorney, Chris Campbell from Carmel, California, James Reed of Fall River, California and the Offices at the CTF Correctional Training Facility and other law enforcement who made it possible to bring our mother back from Chicago.
